Lightroom 2.1

You may note that the splash screen on Lightroom 2.1 mentions Camera Raw 4.6 as being the compatible version. This is slightly confusing as the latest version of Camera Raw is 5.1. However they are considered equivalent, so if you have Lightroom you are running Camera Raw 5.1!

This confusion was caused because Lightroom 2.0 was released before Photoshop CS4.

Lightroom 2.1 Released

Lightroom 2.1 (MacWin), Camera Raw 5.1 (MacWin) and the DNG Converter 5.1 are now available on Adobe.com. New camera models are supported.

The beta versions of the Camera Profiles and DNG Profile Editor on Adobe Labs have also both been updated.  The Profile update includes additional profiles and incremental improvements to the previous beta profiles.  The DNG Profile Editor includes minor enhancements.

Photoshop CS4 Released; Camera Raw 5.1 update coming soon

Photoshop CS4 has been released with Camera Raw 5; this offers Lightroom 2.0 parity. However, Tom Hogarty mentions that a 5.1 update will happen next week to add support for some of the new cameras released recently.

Hints from Adobe that Beta 2 of the Camera Raw Profiles are coming soon

Eric Chan has mentioned in this post, that Adobe are preparing a beta 2 release of camera profiles which will be released soon via the Adobe Labs site.

Adobe Camera Raw 4.6 released

After a few weeks on Adobe Labs, Adobe Camera Raw 4.6 has been released.

It is available for Mac and Windows

It includes support for 15 new cameras:

Photoshop CS4 and CS4 Extended announced

Adobe have updated Photoshop to CS4 and CS4 Extended. New features for Photographers include:

  • Adjustments panel
  • Masks panel
  • Auto-blending of images
  • Extended depth of field
  • 360-degree panoramas
  • Fluid canvas rotation
  • Industry-leading color correction
  • Better raw image processing
  • Improved Adobe Photoshop Lightroom workflow
  • Efficient file management with Adobe Bridge CS4
  • More powerful printing options
  • File display options
  • Higher performance on very large images (Windows only)
There are many other features too, but the ones of most interest to Lightroom users will be the update to Camera Raw 5 and the improved workflow with Lightroom.

Camera Raw 4.6RC is available on Adobe Labs

A release candidate of Adobe Camera Raw 4.6 has been posted to Adobe Labs. It is not the final version, but is at a level that can be used and tested by the community.

It includes support for the following cameras:

Fuji Finepix IS Pro, Nikon D700, Nikon D90, Nikon Coolpix P6000.

Note that previous support for the Nikon D700 in ACR 4.5 was provisional.

4.6 also contains provisional support for these new models: Canon Rebel X, Canon 50D, Olympus SP-565 UZ, Sony A900, Sigma DP1
