Petapixel reports on a new Plug-in to manually add EXIF Metadata to Lightroom for manual/old lenses. Created by Dirk Essl, it solves the issue that EXIF data from manual/old lenses won’t be recognised by Lightroom. Previously you had to use EXIFTool to enter such information.

Lightroom 4 now available on the North American Mac App Store

May 10th, 2012

Adobe have made a version of Lightroom 4 available on the North American Mac App Store (MAS). If you are familiar with how the MAS works, this is a version of Lightroom where you buy the software on the store and it is licensed to your iTunes account. Updates, for the time being, will be free and served by the MAS) but this is considered a standalone product so isn’t cross compatible with the boxed version or Adobe’s own ESD version.

For the full skinny visit Tom Hogarty’s blog, and to buy Lightroom, current price $149.99, visit the Mac App Store.

The New LR 4.1 RC2 Defringe tool

April 30th, 2012

As mentioned previously, the new Release Candidate of Lightroom 4.1 has introduced a new Chromatic Aberration reduction feature. At first sight it seems quite a complex tool as it has double handles on a slider, which is a Lightroom first! But this new feature is very powerful.

Lightroom 4.0 and Lightroom 4.1 RC2

The Local Adjustment and Gradient tools now include the new functionality as well.

The new controls are mainly found in the Lens Correction panel in the new ‘Color’ section.

A comprehensive description of how this all works has been posted by Eric Chan who is one of the Camera Raw engineers on the Lightroom Journal blog and it is well worth a read. The examples given show just how good this tool is.

Whenever a new software release happens most users want to know what’s in it for them. The same is true for Photographers, and they above anyone ask the question about a new release of Photoshop. To answer this question Bryan O’Neill Hughes, Senior Product Manager for Photoshop, has a guest spot on Scott Kelby’s Photoshop Insider which is well worth reading.

Lightroom 4 and Geotagging

March 18th, 2012

Sean McCormack has posted an article about Lightroom 4 and Geotagging using the iOS app, Geotagr. Its ability to save the GPX tracklog to Dropbox is certainly a handy feature.

Previously I have posted about the more convoluted workflow you had to follow with Lightroom 3. With the previous version, you had to use an app, such as Trails (the one I featured), HoudahGeo (or PC equivalent) to merge the tracklog with the images, and only then could you use location with Lightroom.

Trails can be substituted for Geotagr, and it works very well, you have to email the tracklogs to yourself to use them, but it sounds as though Geotagr with its Dropbox integration may be a winner!
